Red Mountain
Fallon NV
Our trip out to Red Mountain was another great day exploring Nevada’s backcountry and seeing where the trail would take us. Like a lot of our runs, the destination was only part of the adventure.
We made our way through the desert toward Red Mountain, exploring the old roads and taking in the surrounding country along the way. The area offered plenty of the things we enjoy about getting off the pavement, with wide open Nevada views, old trails, mining history, and places that most people simply drive past without ever knowing they’re there.

The Journey
Navigating the Clan Alpine
Day one began with a deep dive into the Clan Alpine Range, immediately leaving pavement behind. We followed faint two-tracks through dense sagebrush, crossing several dry washes before reaching the first set of historic mining claims. The trail demanded careful wheel placement, but rewarded us with solitude.
Day two pushed us further east, exploring the remnants of an old mill site nestled in a hidden canyon. We documented several weathered headframes and stone foundations, imagining the lives of those who once worked these remote claims. Camp was set under a vast, star-filled Great Basin sky.
